About Us

Janice Smella, principal consultant at Barrel Wise Consulting, brings over 20 years of energy marketing experience to Canadian and global energy producers. Her experience spans a full range of marketing functions with a focus on crude and NGLs including trading, logistics, blending, facility management, business development, and risk control.

Having worked with both junior and major producers at Tervita Corporation (Newalta) and from an upstream perspective – Veren (Crescent Point Energy), Vermilion Energy, and Suncor.  Janice understands the unique challenges and opportunities faced by operators in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin. She offers a hands-on, solutions-driven approach that aligns field operations to marketing strategies to maximize netbacks and streamline logistics while considering OPEX.  Janice has also provided strategic evaluation and guidance for transportation and NGL agreements to enable long term egress solutions.

Janice holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Alberta and offers consulting services tailored to the needs of growing producers.
